Iron Country Sheds

Why we ask where your shed is going

A shed on the coast, on a ridge or on open farmland faces very different conditions. So every Iron Country building is engineered for the place it will stand.

From your address to your engineering

  1. 1

    Your address

    Where the building will stand.

  2. 2

    Wind region

How strong the design winds are in your area.

  3. 3

    Terrain and surroundings

Open paddock, suburban street or hillside.

  4. 4

    Engineering for your site

Frames, bracing and footings sized to suit.

  5. 5

    Documents for council

Engineering documentation to support your approval.

What your address tells us

Your project address is the starting point for six things that shape your building.

Wind region

Australian standards divide the country into wind regions (A to D). The same building faces very different wind loads in different regions, and coastal and cyclonic areas need more.

Terrain

Wind behaves differently over open farmland than it does among houses and trees. The terrain around your site changes the loads on the building.

Topography

A building on a hilltop or ridge can face stronger winds than the same building in a sheltered valley.

Shielding

Nearby sheds and trees can reduce wind loads on your shed in some situations. This is taken into account when it applies.

Soil and footings

Footings are designed for the ground on your site. Some sites need a soil classification report. Your certifier or council will tell you if yours does.

How you will use it

A hay shed, a workshop and a shed home are designed for different purposes. The intended use affects what the building has to meet.

How it works for you

When you design your shed online and submit it, we use your project address and your intended use to prepare the engineering. Sheds are engineered by qualified structural engineers through the HiTen CFBS platform, to the applicable Australian standards.

You then receive engineering documentation that can support your council or certifier application. Requirements differ between councils, so check what yours needs before you apply.

If you don't have a final address yet, a suburb or postcode is enough to get started. The engineering is confirmed once the site is known.

The online design is an initial concept. It is not a final engineering document, a building approval or a binding price. See our Quote & Design Disclaimer.

Start your design. We'll engineer it for your site.

Design your shed online, add your project address, and we'll take it from there.
